Reformer

The Reformer is one of several pieces of Pilates studio equipment designed by Joseph Pilates. Versatile and practical serving to both rehabilitate following injury or illness and as a total body conditioning system for athletes and fitness enthusiasts alike.

The Reformer is resistance-based and has a set of springs, ropes and straps, all connected to a gliding carriage. Exercises can be either lying down, sitting, kneeling or standing on the carriage; and the straps are used to place either your feet or hands in to allow you to push or pull yourself on the carriage against the resistance provided by the springs and your own body weight.

The Reformer offers all the famous benefits of Pilates plus the benefits of working with additional resistance of the springs. The spring resistance enhances the Pilates exercises to improve joint mobility, muscle tone, coordination and balance. It also provides support to allow you to achieve new movements and positions you may not be readily able to in your matwork practice.

There are many Reformer exercises, including those for first-time beginners to exercises that challenge the most advanced practitioners and we ensure you are exercising at the right level.

Our Reformer sessions are limited to just 4 people overseen by one instructor allowing for plenty of personalised feedback to help you reach your goals and make the most of your Pilates practice.

If you are interested in joining our Reformer sessions, a one-to-one introduction to Pilates is essential. More information can be found on our getting started page.
